Planet Shaiyan is Born!

glitter universe

Hello, World.

Hi, I’m Shaiyan. Welcome to my little creative corner of the internet! Think of this as my art portfolio meets virtual diary, and throw in a little creative writing, fashion design, and computer programming (maybe) for good measure.

Congrats, it’s a Website!

It only seems right that this website should be a December baby, like myself.

Taking its first breath (by which I mean, populated with this inaugural blog post) on an ungodly cold evening in the Midwest, Planet Shaiyan is currently a blank canvas. It is the first sketchbook a future artist is given as a child by a smiling family member who likely thinks little of the gesture, never suspecting that their casual purchase will shift the trajectory of your entire life; it’s a finger painting, an uncensored journal, a walk-in closet.

Well, to be totally transparent, at this exact moment in time Planet Shaiyan is a completely unremarkable half-baked website; nothing but an uncredited promise. The plan, however, is to sculpt it into my virtual scrapbook of my creative endeavors.

What Can You Expect?

You can expect a visual timeline of my progress as an artist as I learn more and hone my skills with each portrait I sketch and illustration I paint, and a front row seat to my journey in fashion (including but not limited to: my sewing/crochet projects from sketch to finished wearable product, thrifted and upcycled fashion, DIY tutorials, outfit inspiration, etc.). I predict mysterious short stories with dark twists, and informative articles on whatever topic may be piquing my interest any given week–be it an interesting species of spider I’m learning about or an inspirational oil painter–as I challenge myself to be more consistent and experimental with my writing.

Looking at it from an outside perspective… that kinda sounds like a big creative junkyard. And maybe that’s what it is. But I’m so excited to see what shape this big heap of nonsense takes!

What is My Goal?

My goal with Planet Shaiyan is to have a sort of creative studio/gallery/portfolio/blog all in one place that can 1. fit in my pocket and go with me anywhere, and 2. makes my work accessible to people all over the world who I never would have had the chance to connect with if I hadn’t shared what I’m passionate about!

In Conclusion…

I did say (a few times, actually) that this is my artistic diary, so here’s the first scoop: I’m currently 2 days into a multi-media piece. It’s a crocheted spiderweb sewn to a canvas, and I’m slowly adding beads and pieces of “junk” throughout it. Yesterday I added a piece of bubble wrap, a necklace with a broken pendent, and a chocolate wrapper.
